I want to use Google Maps activity in Android studio

I'm trying to use the Google Maps activity in android studio.
However, when I try to do the same while looking at the following sites, the map is not displayed in the emulator.

■ Referenced site
https://akira-watson.com/android/google-maps-api-v2.html

■ Current display status

■ Work performed

  1. Get the API key from the link in google_maps_api.xml
  2. Copy API key
  3. Set beforein google_maps_api.xml

Since it is not displayed, I repeated the same operation several times, but it is not displayed.
Currently, I have deleted unnecessary projects that have been created through repeated work, leaving only the API projects that are installed.

Applicable source code

google_maps_api.xml

   <string name = "google_maps_key" templateMergeStrategy = "preserve" translatable = "false">API key is put here</string>

The API key for Google Maps-based APIs is defined as a string resource.(See the file "res/values / google_maps_api.xml").
Note that the API key is linked to the encryption key used to sign the APK.
You need a different API key for each encryption key, including the release key that is used to
             sign the APK for publishing.
You can define the keys for the debug and release targets in src/debug/and src/release /.

What I tried

Check if google play service is installed
Make sure that the API key, package name, and SHA-1 signature certificate fingerprint are correct (I'm worried because I don't understand the Google platform).
Check if there are any errors in the logcat and debug fields (I did not see any errors, but I'm a beginner so I'm worried that the usage is wrong)

Supplemental information (FW/tool version, etc.)

Language uses Kotlin
